Список стран-гонителей за вероисповедание за 2021 год опубликовала международная христианская правозащитная организация Open Doors. Афганистан оттеснил на второе место Северную Корею.
Захват власти талибами сделал невозможным открытое исповедание какой-либо веры, кроме ислама.
«Движение Талибан строго следит за соблюдением исламских правил, традиций и обычаев в стране. Если иная вера каким-то образом становится известна, то его семья, клан и племя верующего обязаны покаяться и восстановить свою честь, а для этого им следует отречься от христианского родственника или даже убить его. Чаще христианина отправляют на принудительное лечение в психиатрическую клинику, поскольку отречение от ислама считается признаком помешательства», — говорится в заявлении.
Население Афганистана на 99% состоит из мусульман-суннитов, но есть и крохотные общины католиков, буддистов, индуистов и бахаев.
