Израильтянин Шломи Катцин нырнул вблизи портового города, достал со дна древний меч и вручил находку государству. Мечу, по мнению ученых, около 900 лет.
На всеобщее обозрение меч выставят после того, как очистят и восстановят. Его лезвие и рукоять покрыты морскими организмами.
Израильское Управление древностей заявило, что меч принадлежал крестоносцу, который приплыл в Святую Землю почти тысячелетие назад и поблагодарило внимательного ныряльщика-любителя.
Благодаря закрепленной на теле камере Катцину удалось заснять морское дно, которое было усыпано старинными предметами: древними каменными и металлическими якорями, фрагментами керамики.
Артефакты находятся рядом с бухтой Атлит, которая в древности служила портовым городом. По побережью ежедневно проходили тысячи лодок.
«Меч, который сохранился в идеальном состоянии, является прекрасной и редкой находкой. Он, очевидно, принадлежал рыцарю-крестоносцу. Он был найден покрытым коркой морских организмов, но, по-видимому, сделан из железа. Это захватывающе — встретить такой личный объект, переносящий вас на 900 лет назад, в другую эпоху, с рыцарями, доспехами и мечами», — рассказывает специалист Израильского управления древностей Нир Дистельфельд.
