Так вот почему мы все так любим кота! Американские ученые из Университета Миссури поделились открытием — в геномах человека и кошки гораздо больше сходства, чем, к примеру, в геномах собаки или крысы.
Ученый-ветеринар Лесли Лайонс, специализирующийся на генетике кошек, уверяет — кот к человеку ближе всех, за исключением, может быть, приматов.
Лайонс отметил, что кошки эффективнее собак или крыс могут использоваться для исследований болезней человека. Интервал между генами у кошек и человека тоже схож, что можно использовать для более глубокого проникновения в тайны человеческого устройства.
«Работа с приматами обходится дорого, но доступность кошек и их послушный характер делают их одними из самых подходящих животных, с которыми можно работать, чтобы понять геном человека», — говорит Лайонс. Иначе говоря, в скором времени устойчивое выражение «подопытный кролик» нам предстоит заменить на «подопытная кошка»?
