В Великобритании 57-летнего хирурга Саймона Брэмхолла, который признался, что выжег свои инициалы на печени двоих пациентов, 10 января лишили лицензии, приговорили к общественным работам и оштрафовали на 10 тысяч фунтов.
Брэмхолл выжег инициалы во время операций по трансплантации органов в феврале и августе 2013 года, когда работал в больнице королевы Елизаветы в Бирмингеме. Для этого он использовал аргоноплазменный аппарат, которым обычно прижигают кровеносные сосуды.
У одного из пациентов инициалы размером в четыре сантиметра обнаружили через неделю после операции — во время новой трансплантации, проведенной потому, что пересаженный Брэмхоллом орган не прижился.
При рассмотрении инцидента Служба трибунала для практикующих врачей (MPTS) заявила, что Брэмхолл оставил свои инициалы «из-за определенной степени профессионального высокомерия».
Отмечается, что «пациентам не был причинен долговременный физический вред», однако у одного из них возникли проблемы с психическим здоровьем.
Кроме того, по мнению MPTS, действия Брэмхолла «подорвали» общественное доверие к медицине.
