Индия становится гуманнее: менструационные дома для женщин решено ремонтировать
Власти индийского штата Махараштра на западе страны под давлением благотворительной организации из Мумбаи согласились отремонтировать ветхие менструационные дома для женщин.
Многие из менструационных домов возведены еще в начале прошлого столетия и представляют собой ветхие избы. Их решено не просто ремонтировать, а превратить в скромные отели — с кроватями, уборными, водопроводом и электричеством, сообщает ВВС.
Правозащитники согласны с тем, что передовым шагом было бы упразднение менструационных домов, но, ввиду консервативности населения, об этом не может быть и речи.
Тема «критических дней» женщины в Индии табуирована. Женщина в это время нечиста и изгоняется из дому. Ей нельзя пойти не только в храм, но и на собственную кухню.
Менструационные дома для женщин из глины и бамбука с соломенной крышей являются рассадниками антисанитарии. Часто на их обитательниц нападают дикие животные.
Еду и воду женщине в этот период доставляют родственницы. Если же в поле зрения такой женщины попал мужчина (речь идет о взгляде, а не прикосновении), он должен немедленно искупаться.
