Все знают, что солист группы Queen Фредди Меркьюри пел «не как все». Он обладал многогранным и сильным вокалом, на который теперь группа ученых из Венского университета решила посмотреть с научной точки зрения.
В процессе исследования были изучены записи вокала Меркьюри, а также записи его интервью. Кроме того, голос Фредди сопоставили с вокалом певца, имитирующим манеру его исполнения.
Считалось, что Меркьюри владеет четырьмя октавами, однако ученые опровергли этот факт. Они установили, что голос Фредди больше трех, но меньше четырех октав, хотя и это совсем не мало.
По заявлению исследователей музыкант был обладателем баритона, но уникальная способность в совершенстве управлять своим голосом позволяла ему петь свойственным для Queen тенором.
Меломанам наверняка запомнился дуэт Меркьюри и Монсеррат Кабалье. Но не все знают, что Монсеррат предложила Фредди петь баритоном, а он отказался, опасаясь, не узнают его голос.
Ученые также изучили и такую особенность голоса Меркьюри как «рычащий вокал». По мнению ученых, такая манера исполнения совпадает с манерой горлового пения мастеров тибетского и якутского горлового пения.
Частота голосовых вибраций Ф. Меркьюри равнялась 7 Гц, что на 2 Гц превышает диапазон, доступный среднестатистическому мужчине.
