На Гаити растет число погибших в результате землетрясения магнитудой 7,2, произошедшего у побережья 14 августа. Премьер-министр страны объявил режим чрезвычайного положения и призвал страны мира к солидарности перед лицом катастрофы. Озвученные СМИ данные о погибших варьируются от 400 до более тысячи человек. Спасательные службы продолжают находить людей под завалами. Стихия полностью разрушила почти 14 тысяч сооружений. На помощь пострадавшим ООН направит 8 миллионов долларов.
