В следующем году состоится смелый эксперимент NASA: астероид собьют зондом. Задача специалистов — оценить вероятность отражения «атаки» небесного объекта.
Осенью 2022 года в рамках миссии DART исследователи собьют астероид Диморфос, чтобы изучить изменение траектории тела.
Против эксперимента выступили ученые Мэрилендского университета. Они рассчитали, что зонд весом 500 кг лишь замедлит движение Диморфоса. Столкновение не станет причиной изменения траектории небесного тела и падения его на Землю, но объект может раскачиваться и кувыркаться на орбите.
Ученые предупреждают, что эти колебания затруднят дальнейшее изучение Диморфоса. Также не стоит забывать про угрозу выброса осколков и их хаотичного передвижения в космосе.
