Международная группа немецких и новозеландских ученых из Института биологии животноводства вплотную занялась обучению телят пользованию туалетом. По мнению специалистов, успех эксперимента позволит снизить выбросы парниковых газов.
Первый этап исследований ученых обрадовал: 11 животных из 16 сходили в туалет правильно.
Оппоненты ученой группы уверяют, что исследование бессмысленно, а его практические воплощения не смогут привести к значительному сокращению выбросов парниковых газов. Но авторы эксперимента настаивают на том, что что в моче коровы много аммиака, следовательно, возможность собирать мочу коров в гораздо больших количествах, чем сейчас, важна.
MooLoo или Коровий туалет представляет собой ящик, выстланный искусственной травой. Учили им пользоваться телят долго и сложно. Сначала помещали в бокс и кормили каждый раз при мочеиспускании. Затем отводили от стойла и награждали едой за удовлетворение потребностей в специально отведенном месте. А вот если животное «сходило» вне туалета, его обрызгивали водой.
