Международная команда исследователей во главе с учеными из швейцарского Бернского университета нашла свидетельства необычной ритуальной практики жителей одного из древнейших поселений мира.
Поселение называлось Чаталхеюк и располагалось на территории нынешней южной Анталии. Раскопки в этом месте позволяют предположить, что люди здесь строили дома и формировали сообщества еще 9 тысяч лет назад. Площадь поселения эпохи неолита составляет 13 га.
Дома из сырцового кирпича их владельцы строили вплотную друг к другу. А умерших хоронили прямо под полом. Причем не только членов своей семьи.
Еще одним открытием оказалось, что жители Чаталхеюка во время похорон пользовались красителями. Больше всего — красной охрой. Следы природного красителя нашли на скелетах мужчин, женщин и детей.
Реже в погребальных ритуалах использовались киноварь и сине-зеленый краситель. Показательно, что эти краски не использовались при погребении детей. Киноварь применялась для похорон взрослых мужчин, а сине-зеленая краска — взрослых женщин.
Некоторые человеческие останки оставались нетронутыми, другие были захоронены дважды. Вероятно, люди извлекали останки для совершения ритуальных действий, а затем снова закапывали.
