В Израиле археологи, работающие в центре Иерусалима, где ведутся раскопки западного крыла пиршественного зала Ирода Великого, нашли отхожее место, принадлежащее владельцам богатой виллы.
Сразу поясним — это редкость. Во времена Первого храма, иначе говоря, почти 2 тысячи лет назад, в частном пользовании туалетные помещения, тем более, прямо в жилом пространстве, почти не встречались.
Что нашли ученые? Комфортное сидение, под которым располагалась септическая яма.
«Индивидуальные туалетные кабинки были очень редки; на сегодняшний день их было найдено всего несколько. В септике сохранились обломки глиняной посуды и кости животных, что позволит больше узнать о диете и состоянии здоровья людей того времени. Рядом с гигиеническим помещением находились декоративные каменные капители и колонны, обрамлявшие фруктовый сад с искусственным водоемом», — рассказывает руководитель раскопок Яков Биллиг.
