Более чем через месяц, 4 марта, ракета Falcon 9 компании SpaceX (ее вторая ступень) врежется в поверхность обратной стороны Луны.
По плану с ракетой-носителем, движущейся к Луне, этого произойти не могло. Ее запустили почти семь лет назад, в феврале 2015 года. Ракета успешно вывела на орбиту космический аппарат DSCOVR для наблюдения за Солнцем и Землей.
Вторая ступень ракеты сожгла топливо, осталась в космосе и стала двигаться, как заявил метеоролог Эрик Бергер, по «в некоторой степени хаотичной орбите».
Теперь фрагмент космического мусора массой в четыре тонны со скоростью 2,58 километра в секунду летит в сторону Луны.
По расчетам аналитика данных Билла Грея, ступень ракеты столкнется со спутником Земли 4 марта.
Увидеть момент столкновения земляне не смогут: столкновение произойдет с обратной стороны Луны.
