Работающая в Марокко международная группа археологов сообщила о находке, которая корректирует наши представления о мире на сотни тысяч лет.
Несколько дней назад, работая в карьере на окраине Касабланки, члены группы нашли старейшее в Северной Африке место производства ручных топоров. Возраст изделия каменного века — 1,3 миллиона лет.
Это означает, что смещается датировка ашельской индустрии каменных орудий — достижений предка человека Homo erectus. Теперь соруководитель программы франко-марокканских предысторий Касабланки Абдеррахим Мохиб предвкушает всплеск археологических дебатов, ведь принято считать, что ашельская промышленность по производству каменных орудий имела место не более 700 тысяч назад, рассказывает портал «Земля. Хроники жизни».
Работы велись в карьере Томаса I, притягивающем ученых еще с 1969 года, когда там была найдена половина нижней челюсти человека. Тогда и появилась цифра в 700 тысяч лет. Теперь команда из 17 человек нашла то, что марокканский археолог Абделуахед Бен-Насер назвал новость «хронологическим откатом».
