В Венеции под водой нашли древнюю римскую дорогу. Что это меняет в представлениях о возрасте города?
Итальянские археологи под руководством Фантины Мадрикардо из Национального исследовательского совета сообщили об обнаружении древней римской дороги на дне канала Трепорти в регионе Венето.
Очевидно, дорога функционировала до того, как уровень моря поднялся и затопил этот район. «Мы задокументировали наличие участка затопленной римской дороги длиной около 1200 метров на древнем пляжном гребне, ныне затопленном в лагуне Северной Венеции», — сообщили ученые.
Они полагают, что их находка свидетельствует о существовании значительного римского поселения, опередившего на несколько сотен лет Венецию, основание и заселение которой датировано V веком нашей эры.
Это не первое открытие подводного слоя Венеции. Раньше следы дороги были обнаружены в нижней части пролива Сканелло.
Сейчас ученые ищут подтверждения гипотезе о том, что вдоль дороги были расположены различные строения.
Дорога проходила между Венецианской лагуной и Адриатическим морем.Уже очевидно, что она входила в более крупную дорожную сеть.
