Верховный суд Великобритании 30 июля признал незаконным начало строительства автодорожного туннеля недалеко от Стоунхенджа.
Проект стоимостью 2,3 миллиарда долларов был одобрен министром транспорта Грантом Шэппсом в ноябре 2020 года, хотя Инспекция по планированию возражала: дорожные работы нанесли бы объекту непоправимый ущерб, сообщают британские СМИ.
На защиту дольменов ставили активисты, любители истории, археологи, последователи древних культов, а также британцы, считающие себя потомками кельтских друидов.
К Стоунхенджу ведет одна из самых загруженных в стране трасс А303. Подземный туннель длиной около трех километров должен был разгрузить шоссе. «Убирая» автомобили под землю, авторы проекта также говорили, что таким образом уменьшится объем выхлопов и шумового загрязнения в районе памятника.
Один из аргументов суда — нельзя тревожить останки людей, захороненных в священном месте. Последней точкой в споре оказалось предупреждение со стороны комитета Всемирного наследия ЮНЕСКО: в случае реализации проекта Стоунхендж будет исключен из списка самых ценных объектов человечества.
Напомним, накануне ЮНЕСКО удалила из списка объектов всемирного наследия Ливерпуль, набережную которого в последние годы радикально изменили застройщики-коммерсанты.
