Международная команда астрономов, подсуммировав итоги исследования, начатого несколько лет назад, теперь уже официально заявила, что 4,5 миллиарда лет назад наша планета быть не вполне… круглой.
Группа ученых под руководством американца Саймона Лока из Калифорнийского технологического института осуществила компьютерное моделирование Земли на самых ранних стадиях ее развития. И теперь настаивает, что форма Земли могла напоминать картофелину либо мяч для игры в регби/фрисби. Иначе говоря, летающий диск в виде тарелки.
Такая форма, по мнению ученых, могла быть обусловлена быстрым вращением самой планеты и близостью молодой Луны. Ведь сама Луна, по одной из версий, образовалась в результате столкновения планеты с крупным объектом. В итоге часть материала Земли было вырвана, и из нее сформировалась Луна.
Считается, что 4,5 миллиарда лет назад Луна была ближе к Земле в 30 раз ближе, чем сегодня. И эта близость могла стать причиной нарушения Земли и орбитального движения Луны. Проще говоря, Земля вращалась так быстро, что она растянулась.
Именно в этот период, настаивает Саймон Лок, на Земле активизировались вулканы и начал формироваться ландшафт.
Изыскания ученых вынесены на рецензирование и идеи уже есть сторонники и противники.
