В Канаде в Британской Колумбии 4 октября многие жители на мгновение увидели огненный шар, осветивший ночное небо. В эту ночь падал метеорит.
Рут Гамильтон спала. Она проснулась от грохота и ощущения, будто на лицо падают мелкие камни. Испуганная женщина вскочила и включила свет, а, оглядевшись, увидела на подушке камень. Он был рядом с вмятиной от ее головы.
Женщина позвонила в службу спасения. Прибывший на место происшествия полицейский первым понял, что на подушку Рут упал осколок метеорита.
Пожилая канадка настояла, чтобы метеорит остался у нее — она хочет отдать его внукам, которые жаждут его получить.
«Жизнь драгоценна, и она может исчезнуть в любой момент, даже когда вы думаете, что в своей постели вы в безопасности. Надеюсь, что я больше никогда не буду принимать жизнь как должное»,— говорит Рут.
