Французский актер Жерар Депардье на пресс-конференции в рамках Каннского кинофестиваля заявил, что его отношение к президенту России Владимиру Путину не изменилось после начала украино-российского конфликта. Но добавил «Слава Украине!»
Пресс-конференция прошла после конкурсного показа фильма «Долина любви» с участием актера.
Депардье пояснил, что лично знает российского президента и «очень его любит». Затем пошутил, что до сих пор воспринимает постсоветское пространство как единое целое.
«Украина? Я часто езжу в СССР. Ах, это уже не СССР, но это ответ на ваш вопрос», — сказал актер.
Затем, в промежутке перед следующим вопросом, произнес в микрофон «Слава Украине!»
В начале 2013 года Депардье получил российское гражданство. СМИ связали его желание покинуть Родину с решением президента Франции Франсуа Олланда ввести 75-процентный налог на годовой доход, превышающий миллион евро. Паспорт гражданина РФ актеру вручил лично президент России Владимир Путин. А Рамзан Кадыров подарил 5-комнатную квартиру в жилом комплексе «Грозный-Сити».
В апреле 2015 Депардье покинул Россию и переехал в Бельгию.
