В Британии в Уэльсе есть дворец епископа, окруженный рвом. В этом канале плавает пара «придворных лебедей». Трижды в день они звонят в колокол, напоминая, что их пора покормить. И так уже 150 лет. Конечно, это не так же сама пара, средняя продолжительность жизни лебедей 23-26 лет. Но кто и почему учит каждое поколение лебедей звонить в колокол, сохраняя старинную традицию?
Легенда гласит, что в середине XIX столетия дочь епископа стала подкармливать местных лебедей, а потом повесила колокол с внешней стороны сторожки и научила лебедей звонить в него во время обеда. Тогда сторож кормил и их тоже.
Взрослые лебеди учат птенцов пользоваться колокольчиком. Традицию хранят и сторожа. Каждый сторож, выходя на пенсию, объясняет своему сменщику, что в его обязанности входит давать корм лебедям по звонку колокола. Как лебеди им пользуются?
