Подводный робот, отправленный учеными на глубину, недоступную оборудованию аквалангистов, нашел прозрачного осьминога, которого исследователи пока что условно называют стеклянным.
Прозрачное головоногое увидели в Тихом океане ученые c исследовательского судна Falkor, принадлежащего Институту океана Шмидта. Хотя съемка и велась на относительно небольшой глубине — примерно километр — прежде прозрачного осьминога увидеть так близко не удавалось. Особый ажиотаж в мире морских биологов вызвала возможность рассмотреть пищеварительную систему осьминога.
«Материал» осьминога напоминает тело медузы, с той разницей, что хорошо видны его прямоугольные глаза.
Прозрачный моллюск небольшой: длина со щупальцами 46 см, протяженность мантии 11 см.
