В Израиле в Явне археологи обнаружили винодельню 1,5-тысячелетней давности. Самое удивительное — оборот. Ученые выяснили, что производство выдавало до 2 миллионов литров в год.
Древний завод состоял из пяти огромных винных прессов. Площадь каждого пресса — 225 кв. м. Нашли археологи и склады для выдержки вина, печи для обжига амфор, склад глиняной тары.
Кто пил столько вина? Все! Из-за плохого качества питьевой воды культура винопития в Средиземноморском регионе была не столько культурой, сколько повседневностью. Не был исключением и Израиль, входивший в состав Византийской империи.
